We’re a vibrant, independent Indian restaurant based in Clifton Village, Bristol. Our menu is inspired by the diversity of India and its 29 states, which stretches from the pulse regions of the Himalayas in the north, to the spice and seafood abundance of tropical south India.
Nutmeg Bristol is the brainchild of Raja Munuswamy and his pal and Head Chef Arvind Pawar who met whilst working in Bristol, and were drawn together through their love and passion of their home country and its food, and a desire to share it with the city they’ve come to see as home.
Raja grew up in a village in Tamil Nadu, south India. His earliest memories include helping his dad out on the family’s rice fields and climbing coconut trees for his ma’s coconut chutney. Food has always been an important part of his life and he has pursued this passion through hospitality management over the last 10 years. In 2016 he finally had the opportunity to open a restaurant with an aim of enhancing education of Indian cuisine and culture.
Head Chef Arvind developed a love of food through his mom’s home cooking, and spent many a day helping her out in the kitchen. Arvind hails from India’s capital city of Delhi in north India, a bustling metropolis which attracts people from across the country of India. Where people come, food always follows, and Arvind was exposed to a range of different Indian cuisines which encouraged his passion and knowledge of food and cooking techniques. This led to him working at some of Delhi’s most esteemed hotels including the Taj hotels. He has also worked in Singapore, Germany and the UK.
To us, the best way to serve and celebrate Indian dishes is to use the highest quality ingredients which we source from a range of independent local suppliers.
